You know in “A Study In Pink” when Sherlock says that the dead woman’s marriage life was unhappy because of the state of her wedding ring [“Her wedding ring. Ten years old at least. The rest of her jewellery has been regularly cleaned, but not her wedding ring. The inside is shinier than the outside. The only polishing it gets is when she works it off her finger.”] and then Lestrade drops his small smirk and raises his eyebrow like if he just realised that his wife is cheating on him.

I’m doing a giant Sherlock giveaway to celebrate several very important things! First I’ll tell you about the giveaway and then I’ll tell you what I’m celebrating.
(sorry about the crappy quality, the pictures were taken on various surfaces around my house.)
Prizes: The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle, w/ BBC Sherlock covers; Sherlock Series 1 & 2; The Sherlock Files: The Official Companion to the Hit Television Series by Guy Adams; a DVD of Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows; an “I am Sher-locked” T-shirt, size large; a dark blue Sherlock-esque scarf; Sherlock’s flag pillow; a Sherlock pendant; Sherlock earrings; a ebook of Locked; three pre-orders of Sherlock Series 3.
Rules:
The giveaway runs until February 10th, 2014.
One winner gets all the prizes listed, plus an Amazon pre-order of Sherlock Series 3. Three additional winners will get a pre-order as well.
Giveaway is worldwide. (I’m not sure if I can pre-order something on Amazon for someone in another country, but if I can’t, I’ll send you a gift card for the amount)
Both reblogs and likes count. The winner does not have to be following me.
You can reblog as many times as you like per day.
Winners must have their askboxes open. (If you don’t, I’ll try to contact you somehow, but it’s way easier if your askbox is open.)

So why am I giving away all my Sherlock stuff?
Well, partially because I’m moving and I need to get rid of stuff anyway. But MOSTLY because I have some really important news for anyone who writes Sherlock fanfic, and I want to spread it around.
You can now publish Sherlock Holmes fanfiction on Amazon (or elsewhere) without needing to get permission to use the rights.
This is big news that came out at the same time as Series 3, so it got buried, but you can read about it here and here and here. Essentially, a judge has just decided that Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain. He can be adapted by other authors. THIS IS HUGE.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve had my heart torn out and shredded by a Sherlock fic. (Hey thanks, Alone on the Water.) Or how many times I’ve marveled at the amount of work that must have gone into a fic. This shit is worth a few dollars. If you choose to self-publish your Sherlock fic, I will gladly buy it. (obvs you can’t use any BBC chars, like Molly, but everything else is up for grabs.)
Some of you may know me as fanfic writer last_hurrah. I put up a Johnlock teen AU during a pretty difficult time in my life, and I’m not kidding when I say that the overwhelming response got me through it. The Sherlock fandom is such a positive place, and I’ve cried more than once at incredibly kind reviews and messages left by strangers.
You might be wondering about one of the prizes - a ebook of Locked by Eva Morgan. Eva Morgan is me, and Locked is the Sherlock book I’m self-publishing.
I know you can read Sherlock fanfic online for free. I would really, really rather post this online for free. But I need a way to make a living right now, and this is the only thing anyone has ever said I’m good at.
It’ll be available to buy online on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Kobo, and Smashwords starting February 10th, 2014 (when the giveaway ends), and it’ll cost $2.99. Which is the cost of a large fry at McDonalds.
This isn’t me demanding you buy my book. I put a year of work into it, including an entire rewrite, and I would be so happy if you did buy it. But you don’t have to. Mostly, this is me wanting to say that we pay for the things we value, and there are so many Sherlock fic writers out there that deserve to be paid for what they do.
Other fandoms don’t have this opportunity. (Sorry Supernatural and Dr. Who, I love you anyway.) We are seriously lucky. And if there’s one thing I know about the Sherlock fandom, it’s that we can do anything.
Anyway. It’s pretty nerve-wracking to finally post this, but here’s the blurb for Locked:
|||
Seventeen-year-old Irene Adler hasn’t cared much for living since her sister died. Until Sherlock Holmes moves in next door.Sherlock is a conceited, sharp-cheekboned nightmare—and Irene’s first real friend in ages. Within a day, he’s partnered with her to solve their school’s mysteries. Within a week, he’s saved her life in more ways than one. Within a month, the whole school thinks he’s a murderer. When Sherlock is found alone with a dead girl, he and Irene must crack the case under a hailstorm of hate—before the killer comes after the genius who gave Irene her life back.

|||
I don’t want to clutter this post with the full-size cover and excerpt, since most of you guys are probably just here for the giveaway, but if you’re interested you can click here to find the page for it on my blog.

benedictervention:

Here it is, as promised. My Happy New Year 2014 Giveaway. Not a huge giveaway by some standards, but a little something to show my appreciation for my followers who put up with my Khan spams, Ben perving and general randomness. You are all wonderful and I am grateful to you all for making tumblr a fun place to be and enjoying this journey with me!

OK, here’s what we’ve got:

  • Sherlock Cluedo
  • 2 Star Trek Into Darkness 2014 Calendars
  • A wall clock with pictures of Benedict on the face. You can easily change these to your choice of pics. Full instructions enclosed! I’ll include a few extras as shown to get you started. Clock battery  (AA) not included due to postage restrictions on batteries.
  • 2 copies of (British) GQ (Ben on cover!)
  • 1 Copy of Time Magazine (Ben on cover!)
  • 1 copy of The Lady Magazine (Guess who on cover!)
  • 1 Star Trek Khan #1 Comic (Retailer incentive cover)
  • 1 Star Trek Khan #2 Comic (Regular cover with white overlay, means you get Paul Shipper’s lovely artwork unimpeded by text!
  • 1 copy of TV and Satellite Weekly with Sherlock on the cover and a feature inside.

And here is how the prize packages will break down:

  1. First prize will get Sherlock Cluedo, TV and Satellite Weekly Mag, plus one other magazine of your choice.
  2. Second prize will get a Star Trek calendar, both Khan comics, plus one magazine of your choice from what’s left.
  3. Third prize will get the wall clock, plus a magazine of your choice from what’s left.
  4. Fourth prize will get a Star Trek calendar and the remaining magazine after the others have chosen.

Now here is the boring bit…

  • You must be following me, because this is a “thank you” designed specifically for my followers. I will be checking.
  • No giveaway blogs.
  • Only reblogs will count. You can like the post for your own information, but it won’t get you an entry unless you reblog it too. Only 1 reblog is necessary to enter you in the drawing. You may reblog this as many times as you like, but it won’t increase your chances of winning. And please don’t spam your followers until they get sick of you.
  • I reserve the right to make any changes to these rules if I’ve  forgotten anything. I will reblog if I make changes.
  • Your ask box must be open and you must be willing to provide me with your name and address if you win, so that I can send your prizes to you.
  • I will make reasonable attempts to contact winners within 48 hours, but if I don’t hear back from you in that time, your prize may be allocated to someone else.
  • I will ship anywhere in the world, but you may be liable for your own country’s import taxes.
  • Winners will be picked at random, either by a random number generator, or by pulling names out of a hat/bag/box. (My eldest daughter will do this. She has no idea who any of you are so your urls mean nothing to her.)
  • Winners may choose a lower prize than the one allocated but not a higher one.
  • The giveaway is underway immediately this post goes live. It will run until 31st January 2014
  • Prizes will be shipped out in early February 2014. (I appreciate that means a month of the calendar will be gone already (and it’s Khan for January!) but you can always chop a page off and use him for another month… or all year if you like!

So there you go. I may add more things as this goes along. And tomorrow I will replace the photo of the wall clock with one that doesn’t have a reflection in it.

01.01.14: Edit - new pic of clock (with slightly less reflection) added.
